An Individual Presentation at the Researcher to Reader Conference is a presentation given by one person, where they are conveying expert knowledge or experience on a topic. Occasionally, it may be appropriate for a single presentation to be shared by two speakers. Typically, the Conference timetable includes 3 to 5 Individual Presentations.
These sessions are typically structured as a single of talk lasting 20-25 minutes, followed by a moderated Q&A with the Conference participants lasting 10-15 minutes. Sometimes it is appropriate to group two related Individual Presentations together in a combined session, in which case the Q&A period is usually shared after both presentations have been given.
The speakers may use slides if they wish, but it is strongly recommended that these are only used where they convey visual information; displaying a set of bullet-points that are merely speaker notes is strongly discouraged.
In the R2R Call for Papers, proposals may be made for an Individual Presentation session, but people who have proposed other session types (most commonly a Panel Presentation or a Lightning Talk) may be invited to adapt their proposal to be an Individual Presentation session. People who have proposed an Individual Presentation may also be invited to adapt their proposal to another session type (most commonly a Lightning Talk).
Individual Presentation speakers are strongly encouraged to participate in the whole Conference, not just appear for their own session, and are offered a discount on Conference attendance of 50% off the normally applicable early-bird tariff. Individual Presentation speakers are invited to the informal contributor dinner at the end of the first day of the Conference, at their own cost.
